HALLOWEEN PARTY THIS FRIDAY!

Hello ladies

Kuulei and I are so excited for our Halloween party this friday.  The party will be at the church relief society or primary room.  Please don't forget to, have your child come in costume, bring a  trick or treat basket, bring candy to pass out to our little trick or treaters and your potluck snack or dessert.  Please limit our games and crafts to 15- 20 minutes each, that would be great.   Please post what you are bringing so we don't bring the same things, and see what games and crafts you have planned so we don't double up.  so please post and let us know, also below, is a list of additional things that we need if you can bring any of the items please include it in your post.

****Do we want to have our party in the afternoon or same as school time?  Let me know what you think.****

FIRST FUNBOX FIELDTRIP FUNDAY @ PUMPKINLAND (wow that's a tongue twister)

Despite it being BRRRR... cold, it did not phase the kids!  They all had a blast!!  This was my first time at the Vineyard and I must say I was thoroughly impressed and entertained!  Julie led us astray and we got lost in the maze...hahaha..okay I did. LOL  The kids kept telling us, "we are never gonna get out", another one said, "you should have brought a map", and another said, "we are lost" LOL! so funny! It was good fun trying to make it out of the maze, we were about to bulldoze through the corn to make our own pathway.  They got to see HUMONGOUS pumpkins, get lost in a corn maze, see different types of vegetables, play on fun structures, see rabbits, peacocks, roosters, birds, goats, and the occasional mouse.  We went through a light alley and finally got to pick their very own unique pumpkin!  It was chilly so we had out lunch at Mrs. Julie's nice warm house.  Julie took some great pictures!!!  I have to say, Mama's you missed out! lol :)

MONDAY Review @ Mrs. Pam's House

First of all, so sorry my camera is officially broken, so that's on my wish list for Christmas, so this means I have no pictures to post....Sorry :(

Monday was a great day, it was nice having the kids back at my house,  my how time flies.  We started off with our usual routine with our circle time activites.  I must say they are doing AWESOME, all of them know all our songs very well, and I am so proud of them knowing bits and peices of the pledge of allegiance.  You are so right Mili, Repetition does pay off.

After our circle time, we played I spy A-E game, I wrote randomly A through E throughout the poster and I helped up the letter and they had to put a sticker over the letter I showed them.  They all did so great, they wanted to put stickers all over themselves.  We played another game, like mingle, but instead of getting into groups they had to run to the letter area I called out.  My theme was halloween stuff, so we then played pin  the nose on the pumpkin, they thought it was funny when they put the nose by his eyes.

We then painted paper plates orange to make pumpkins, however Ms Kailia refused to paint her pumpkin plate orange she wanted it to be blue, so she has a blue pumpkin, lol.  We will finish this project at our party on friday
I had them feel the pumpkin and explain to me what do they see and feel.   They said it was orange, cold, big, and bumpy.  WOW! Great description.  I cut the top open and they all helped clean the inside out except Kailia and Malachi they did not want to get dirty..hahaha!  I let them taste pumpkins seeds that I roasted, they did not like the taste.  We made Spooky Popcorn Hands great activity to help with their fine motor skills.  I had to make 8 bags of popcorn because they kept eating the popcorn!!! lol

We read Brown Bear Brown Bear  what do you see?  They loved this book, we read it a couple of times and it almost seemed like them memorized it...so smart our kiddos....

We had a great day, Kuulei did better with sharing her mommy today....

Upcoming Fun Filled Week!

Okay Funboxers! I am so excited for  my week, we will have school Monday, wednesday and friday, and instead of me working on the letter F I will be doing a review of A-E.  So here is a breakdown of what will be going on during my week.

Monday:  Preschool at Mrs Pam's House 10:30-12:30

Wednesday:  Field Trip to Pumpkinland Vineyard on Geneva Road. 10:30-12:30

Pumpkinland Vineyard

I will need some Moms to accompany me for the fieldtrip, if you can make it please let me know asap.  Everyone will need to just bring 1.00 to pay for their pumpkin, I thought it would be fun for them to be able to pay for their very own pumpkin.  also please pack a lunch for your child to bring with them so we can have lunch at Pumpkinland.  You are welcome to bring siblings too.  The kids where their costumes if they want.

Friday:  Halloween Party!  10:30 -12:30
Ok, I need the help of all of you for this fun party for our kiddos.  I would really hope that all the mom's will be there, if you can not come, please let me know asap, so I can make other arrangements.  For their activities at the party I was wondering if each of us can be responsible for one game or craft corresponding with the letter, shape, color or number that you taught on your week, of your choice.  If you can have it ready by Thursday so I can set it up prior your arrival.  Maybe 3 games and 2 crafts, let me know which one you would like to do.  Also post what you think you will be doing so that we don't have doubles of games or crafts.  The food will be potluck (kid friendly foods) , and also please bring candy to pass out while the kids trick ok treat around the back yard, so have your kids come in their costumes.
Let me know ahead of time if you cannot participate in any of the requested assignments.

Thank you for all your help!

WE DID IT! WE MADE IT THROUGH THE FIRST ROTATION.

Hello Funbox Preschool Teachers,

We did it, we made it through the first teaching rotation, and I hope you all had as much fun teaching and working with the kids as I did.  I know for sure our children just love it and look forward to preschool every week.  I am very excited working with all of you and your children.  Now that we managed to get all the teaching jitters out of the way, lets get ready for our new cycle, maybe we can post and share online any resources and ideas that we may have to help make each others teaching experience be more fulfilling and enjoyable.
Great job ladies!!

Exploring and Picture Day

We went exploring with the letter E and the color orange.

look at those smiles.
Love how silly they are together.

Picture day was fun and the kids were full of energy.  Kailia was a natural in front of the camera.  Alema was so animated and I love to see how happy he is.  I asked him to show me a sad face and it was the same as his happy face.  I love his smile.  Malachi kept saying he was freezing but that didn't stop him from turning on his smile for the camera.  Aisa was anxious to get his pictures done quickly so he could run and play with the others.    Kuulei has the cutest dimples and the camera loves her. Enjoy the pictures.

Picture Day is Wednesday

Picture Day is Wednesday, October 20th. We will be taking individual photos and a class photo.  If you would like to order photos, we are collecting $5 for a packet of individual photos and one 5x7 of the class. You are welcome to place your order later if you would like to place an order at a later time.  You're pictures will be available next week Monday.

We'll see everyone on Wednesday.

the letter E @ Malachi's

First day of Funbox preschool at Malachi's house. He was so excited for all his friends to come to his house and play and learn. The first two here were Alema and Kailia. Alema was so funny. First thing he did was take off his backpack, and take out his "mail", his football and a cup o noodles. By the way, the football was a "University of Utah" football, which I thought was against the law in the Foster household! LOL! Maybe he got it from his uncle that coaches at the U. Wonder if Walter knows about that? hahaha!

We welcomed the children with our greeting song, Where is ...? They all took their turns and everyone knew the routine.  Alema was our flag helper and he did a wonderful job.  Aisa predicted sunny weather.  Next was our Days of the week song.  We sang it a few times.  Alema asked us to sing it quietly because his mommy like it quiet.  So we did, I kind of like it sung quietly too.

This week’s letter is E.  After introducing the E, each was able to identify an E on our signs.  When they found the E, I had them push the letter E on the Leap Frog that sang a song about the sound of E.  I also had a pillowcase with the E on it that had different items in it that start with E like envelope, Elmo, earth, egg, elephant, and Ernie.  We sang our EE, what do you see song as everyone picked an item.

Craft time went smoothly.  We broke our Elephant Art Project up into two parts— painting the hand prints and gluing on the ears and eyes. Aisa didn’t want to paint his so I traced his hand instead. The girls seemed to enjoy picking out their googly eyes and gluing on the parts.

For Snack Time we had oranges, grapes, bananas and a fruit dip shape like an elephant.   We also had baked elephant ears (biscuits dipped in cinnamon and sugar).  Kuulei was a so helpful but decided she wanted to go play with all the others.   Kailia loved grapes.  Kuulei thought the elephant ears were tasty.  Aisa started eating the orange and then says, Auntie I don’t like this orange.  I look over and I realized that he was trying to eat the skin of the orange (hahaha). I showed him which part to eat, and he discovered that he loved the orange! Snack time was awesome!
For our little science activity, didn't really go as I planned. I found a little experiment to try online, and I was misled. We tried to see if an egg would float in water, if it had salt in it. The instructions were to put "a lot" of salt in the water, but how much is "a lot"? I put what I thought was "a lot", but I guess it wasn't enough, because the experiment didn't work. Guess the kids will just have to remember that an egg won't float in water. They were excited that the egg went to the bottom, and appeared to look bigger. Since I forgot to have Malachi help with the crafts, I had him help me with the failed science experiment.

We had music time, and sang a song about 5 little elephants. Kailia was our music helper today, and she was very cute. We used some felt boards to help us with our "little mouse" song. The kids really had fun with that.
As always, the kids enjoy their free play time. I noticed that they all play really well together, and it's nice. Just as long as there are enough toys to go around! Didn't see any fighting at all! They even little little Elijah play with them.
I was looking forward to reading time. I checked out some elephant books from the library, but I guess the kids don't really care for elephants, or maybe just books with elephants. We ended up pretending to be elephants, and making elephant noises. We had a ton of fun with that.
The boys love to play and ride the little bikes. The little girls are so funny. Kuulei was reading an Elmo book, and Kailia kept busy with a little puzzle. It's so funny to see the contrast in behavior between the little boys and girls. The boys are so in to throwing the football, and cars, and the girls seem to stay on task much better. It's so cute.
Well, I think today went really well. I've been preparing and stressing and I survived. :) I appreciate being able to have this little funbox school with all you ladies and our kids. It's great for them, and us. Thanks for all your efforts.
Wednesday we will learn about the color orange please have your child bring something orange for show and tell.  We will be taking picture too.

Diamond Thursday (10/14/10)

We started with playdough again til everyone arrived. We missed Alema today. The kids kept looking out the window and at the door to see if Alema came. It's so cute because they know when someones missing. They also see Kaiona's picture on the chart and can't wait til she joins us and we pray that they're doing fine in Canada with Siona's family.

We did circle time & Kuulei held the flag as we said the pledge. Alema was assigned the weather helper so they all helped do the weather. Kailia was our singing helper and did a great job as we sang the days of the week song. We sang it about 5 times so we could practice holding up 7 fingers.

Diamond was the focus for today. I showed them a diamond cut out of construction paper then got chenille stems (pipe cleaners) out for them to make diamonds on the floor. They all did great making their own diamonds with the stems. They each had a different color so after making their diamonds, I asked who had the black diamond and so forth and they all knew what color they had. I was impressed :) Next I poured out a bunch of shape cutouts on the floor and they each took turns picking out the diamonds. After all the diamonds were picked up. I contiued to see if they knew the other shapes. I'd say, "Kuulei can you give aunty a square/circle/triangle?" and they all did so well. We did this til all the shapes were picked up. We then had art time & made diamonds out of toothpicks, straws & chenille stems and glued them onto paper. I had alot of helpers today because my kids were out of school for fall break. They each needed individual help with this and i'm glad i had it.

We then had a BLOCKS HUNT. Keisha hid diamond, square & triangle blocks around the living room. They had fun running around looking for all the blocks. We put them in a pile in the middle of the floor and i had them pick out all the diamonds. Then they played with the blocks. They had fun making houses out of the square & triangle blocks. I showed them how to make a flower using the diamond blocks.

Malachi was our snack helper. He & Keisha made diamond cut cheese & tuna quesadillas, apple slices & crackers.

After snack, all they really wanted to do was play with the toys but I was able to squeeze in some math with the number 4. I showed them what the number 4 looked like. Then I gave them little 4 piece puzzles of different diamond shaped things and they had to put them together. That didn't last very long so I decided to pull out the last activity of the day. CANDY math lol. As soon as they saw candy, i got their attention again lol. We played a number game where i had 8 index cards with the numbers 1 to 4 & the domino dots 1 to 4 on them. They each drew a card and placed it on the floor. Whatever number or number dots they had on their card,  they had to put that many m&ms onto their card. Then they got to eat the candy. We played this only a couple of times b/c it was already time to go home. We didn't have time to do show & tell i'm sorry if you brought stuff to show.

My assistant teacher for the day took some other pics so I guess I'll post those, too. Aisa & I had a fun week and look forward to many more.
