Letter Y and ABC review @ Julie's House

Thursday we focused on the letter Y.  first everyone wanted to try uncles Yummy green smoothie. Kuulei really liked it and had the cutest green smoothie mustache.

We had a small group today only Kailia, Kuulei and Aisa.  We did our usual circle time then watched a couple of classic Sesame Street video clips on the letter Y and made the letter Y with our bodies when ever we saw a word that started with the letter Y. and danced around the Beatles song "Yellow Submarine" They LOVE to dance!!

We went over the color book Brown Bear, Brown Bear to practice for graduation
then we identified several yellow items and glued them to our Y is for yellow pages.
Some things were soft, some hard and some different shapes.

For snack time we had Yellow Mac & Cheese, Yogurt and we cut open
hard boiled eggs to see the Yellow Yolk inside. They liked the eggs the best!

For a craft project we wrapped yarn around a jell-o box over and over again then tied
them tight in the middle. They them cut the loops and glued eyes on to make our Yarn Pals.

By then it was time to play in the Yard, they were dying to see the dogs and jump on the tramp.

The Next day we had Kailia, Kuulei and Alema.  They always have fun playing together.

We had a great circle time and practiced some things for graduation.  Then we read the book Chika Chika Boom Boom and used magnetic letter to put them up in our palm tree. They could hardly wait taking turns finding the next letter to put on the palm tree.

For snack time we had Alphabet soup and spent time identifying the different letters as they ate them.

We then played an Alphabet review game... we each took turns picking a clothes pin
(marked with letters) out of the bag and then clipped it on the matching letter.

Then we watched a few sesame street video clips that reviewed the alphabet
Kailia and Kuulei thought the view was better upside down.

Alema and Kailia are making the letter H together.

Alema really liked the clothes pin game and did it again all by himself.
Thanks for such a great time at preschool this week both Kailia and I love it!
Your kids are all soooo smart and we always have a blast!

The kids loved how i made yellow magically appear in the water!

We reviewed our Bumble Bee song, make sure you have your kids sing to you and practice with them!

The kids were pretty excited to start our Easter Party so we got started:
- we had a bunny hop dance contest

-we made bunny ears headbands
-we had yummy snacks including the cupcakes from Jason

During craft time, the kids made X's using different mediums, paper, popsicle sticks, and even wrote it out great!  an wa la the created their I know X books!

We made our very own Xylophone with empty jars filled with different levels of water, i added food coloring for an added effect!  The kids thought it was magic how i changed the water color.  they each had a turn to play my homemade xylophone.

rectangles...

Circle time went well. Jason was our flag leader. Kuulei was our weather lady.  Malachi was our singing leader. Kailia helped with the shapes.  We read a few books about shapes.  The kids were so attentive as we read the book Shape by Shape.  They really enjoyed how all the different shapes created  a  large dinosaurs.  We made the letter W with our gummy worms.

We learned about rectangles.  Everyone did a great job of stringing their rectangle.  Science time we had a science experiment with water, ice and salt.  We went ice fishing.  I explained that ice is frozen water and if we pour salt on the ice it will melt.  To demonstrate that we filled a bowl up with ice and water.  Each kid took turns with the fishing pole  and we melted the ice.  Alema was the snack helper and Kuulei was a great help with our rectangle pop tarts.    Aisa was our craft helper.   We practiced fitting different sized rectangles on our train.  After that we pretended to be toys in a rectangle toy box.  We ended our day with playing outside.

Easter Party @ Mrs. Pam's House

We will have an Easter Party the last hour of school on Thursday.  Please send your child with 12 filled eggs for our easter egg hunt and a special Easter treat that they can give out to each of their classmates, and an Easter Basket.

Thank you and let me know if you have any questions.

Letter V, Color Red, #4

On April 7th we learned more about the Letter V, Color Red and #4!

We went outside to dig up some dirt to plant our RED tomato seeds, which is also a VEGETABLE for the letter V. Then we went inside to watch the video/story of The Little Red Hen and talked about helping out around the house.

Then we came in to color and practice drawing the number 4. They also glued 4 little objects to their paper; feather, stickers, pompoms.

We then went fishing for 4 little fishies. Each time they would fish and pull out a number that was not 4, they had to continue fishing. When the found the number 4, they got a little treat.

This was their favorite part of the day. We made a VOLCANO using RED food color, baking soda and vinegar. Afterwards we talked a little about Volcanoes and where they were located.

The were so amazed!

They had sooo much fun cheering!

School this week!

School this week will be at my Kuulei's house on Tuesday and Thursday!

Thanks we will see then!

Love Pam

Wuh is the sound of a W.

Monday we learned about W.  Kuulei was our flag helper.  Jason was excited to be our class weatherman.  Kailia assisted in singing time.   I had the kids trace the big and little w on a zip lock bag that had shaving cream in it.  They all said it was squishy but all participated.    We spent a short time playing in warm water.  The kids loved getting their hands wet.  Snack time was next.  After snack time we had craft time.  Malachi was our craft helper.  The kids were able to put their whales, wings, watermelon and wagons on their window.  After craft time we went on a walk in the forest and at the woods. Alema was our line leader.  I used the cd that has let's pretend activities on it for nursery.  The kids loved pretending to be trees, birds, frogs, rabbits  and more.   This seemed to keep their attention. We ended the class with watching the w letter on the leap frog letter factor dvd... wuh wuh wuh wuh what's going on with you, wuh is the sound of the W.  The boys wanted to re-watch so they could show off their moves.  It was a WONDERFUL day.

Well, I will be teaching on Monday April 4th same time.  We will be learning about rectangles.  Sorry for having to reschedule.  Hope everyone had a great conference weekend.

FunBox at Malachi's

This week school will be held on Monday, March 28 and Friday at 10:30.  We will be learning about the letter W.    Let me know if you have any questions.

The letter V is for...

The kids had a wonderful time learning of the letter V, the color RED and the number 4!

LETTER V: We had letter V worksheets to work on. They circled the letters V in a word puzzle and then worked on tracing the letter V. The kids learned how to do the letter V in sign language. They also watched the Sesame Street video of the letter V which taught different words that starts with V-Vacuum, Volcano, Vulture, Violin, etc. Then we had craft time with a cut out vegetable basket. They colored their baskets and then cut and colored different veggies to put in their baskets. I incorporated the color RED into it too and had red veggies and fruits to glue items on the baskets with their favorite things to eat.

RED: For the color RED, we learned of the veggies and fruits that are red. Afterwards I took them out to my front yard and we played the red light, green light game. They had a lot of fun racing to the finish line and running out some energy.

NUMBER 4: For the number 4 we had lunch in the form of 4's. So the turkey sandwiches were cut into 4 pieces, they had 4 baby carrot sticks, 4 pieces of strawberries and red fruit punch. After some playtime the kids got to pick 4 pipe cleaner craft pieces to make something really cool to take home. Some made spiders and we sang "Itsy bitsy spider". Some made super hero bracelets and flew around the room like a vulture. The topics somehow all fit together. We then read a couple books and had a wonderful singing time!

U is for Universe!

Sorry this is such a LATE update and I hope you will be ok with a quick change of plans. about 2 weeks ago I scheduled our class to go on a field trip to the BYU Planetarium on Fri March 18th. However tonight as I am up late working on stuff, I checked my email and at 930PM received an email from the planetarium saying that the group scheduled for Fri will be a much older group and would not work for our class. They confirmed us for Wed March 16th for 10am-11am (some advance notice huh!!!). I would still LOVE to take the kids! I think field trips are sooo FUN and they get to see and experience new things. I know this is last minute and I don't even know if any of you will check this in the early morning or not. The kids would have to be here (815 E 500 N Orem, a few blocks South of Harmon's) at my house by 9 or 915am at the very latest, or you can meet me at BYU by 940am. The show is from 10-11am and we have to check in 10 mins early. I will try to call all of you in the morning.

T for choo choo TRAIN

TUESDAY

We started with circle time and they've learned all the songs & the pledge so well. We then did name recognition. I wrote each of their names on an envelope & in each envelope were the letters of their name. I held each envelope up and they were all pretty good at recognizing their names. They had to spell their names with the letters using their name on the envelope as a a guide. Then we started our letter of the week "T". I started with showing them how to make T's with our hands by putting them together like how the refs signal a techinal foul in basketball lol. Then I read them a book, "FREIGHT TRAIN" the book also helped them with their colors, each train cart was a different color. Then it was snack time. They love these alphabet cookies that I get from WinCo...a couple of them were lucky enough to find T's in their pile of cookies :) Then they made their trains that they brought home. They're really getting the hang of gluing things together on their own. Then we played the choo choo train game. They each got 2 strips of different color construction paper which were their train tickets. I was the train and I'd call out, "All those with (color) tickets. ALL ABOARD!" then we made a human train with me leading them in a circle around the living room. They loved this game.....then we changed it up a little and I'd say, "It's Kaiona's train!" and they'd all form a line behind Kaiona and go around the living room following her. They each got a turn and looooooved it. ChuggaChuggaChuggaChugga Choooo Choooooo!!!!!!!

THURSDAY

After circle time, we started again with name recognition. We did the envelope exercise we did on Tues. learning to put the letters of their names in order. Then we played "Who Stole The Cookie" I made brown construction paper cookies, one for each of them, with their names on it.....I chose a name from the bowl and we'd sing  "who stole the cookie from the cookie jar.....(Kuulei) stole the cookie from the cookie jar" and so on and so on.....each time a child would pick a cookie from the jar, theyd hold it up for everyone to see so that child who's name was on the cookie would recognize it...then we'd sing the song ( i hope that made sense lol) We read the train book again (COLORS) then had snack. After snack they did their #2 art where they glued 2 eyes, pom poms, feathers & smiley stickers on a #2. Then we played a spin the bottle game. i handed out 2 capital Ts, lower case ts, triangles & #2 written on paper. someone would spin the bottle, whoever it landed on would show their piece of paper & whoever had the matching one would spin next ( ok i hope i'm making sense lol) Then they wanted to play the choo choo train game AGAIN so i got a good workout this week. lol

Anyways, all in all it was a good week, the kids were well behaved and had fun learning :)

Oh "S"!

Ahhh....my last time teaching, right??!!  And we had a good time!  I did the letter S....

On Monday:
We didn't get to circle time only cause we hit the ground running!  When everyone arrived - we left shoes and coats on - and took a walk on the "sidewalk" to look for "snake" food.  We walked around my neighborhood and crossed the street a couple of times and talked about crossing "safely".  The kids were all very good about looking both ways and walking.  My mom always used to say - "We walk on sidewalks - not run - they are sidewalks, not sideruns!."  So we talked about walking so we don't trip.  (We read a short book about being safe before we left my house - it talked about tying our shoelaces too!)

Then when we got back I had a lot piece of paper taped to by family room window.  The kids like to draw on the window for some reason - so it gets them to practice. We practiced drawing our "S's".  Then my mom made salt dough and the kids made snakes that we baked.

We also learned about our "size".  I had the kids lay down and a traced them on butcher paper.  They liked that.  And of course there was play time - the kids were good about cleaning up after play time cause Uncle Talaga was there!  haha....

On Thursday:
Started with circle time.  The kids totally know their days of the week.  We also did colors and each color the kids had to find out who had that color on.  Kuulei had these colorful socks on today so she had all the colors!  Kaiona and Alema were sad because they just had plain white shirts on :).

Next we made "spaghetti".  Each of the kids added water to the pot.  I let them play while the water boiled and spaghetti cooked.  Then we had "snack" time.  Kailia was my little shadow today, Kuulei played with the boys, and Kaiona was the peacemaker.  The boys were fighting over toys today and Kaiona kept telling them they needed to share, they needed to listen, etc.  She was so cute!

And, lastly, it was Dr. Seuss's birthday this week so we did a little Dr. Seuss activity.  I had them color cat in the hat hat's and they got to wear them.  They thought being a doctor was so cool.  We read a couple of his books that I had.  We also sang happy birthday to Dr. Seuss and Uncle Talaga who was at my  house again. (We should just enroll him the our preschool! - The kids are so good when he is around!)

'R' FOR RAINBOW...

Today was my first time teaching and it was so awesome to see how smart these kids are.  We started with circle time which they are all pros at by now.  I added the Samoan alphabet into the mix 'O Le Pi Tautau' which I put to the ABC tune.  They were familiar with the tune so they sang right along trying their best to say the letter and the associated word.  We worked on name recognition using the wonderful name tags Pam made for us.  Ku'ulei recognized her name right away as well as Alema's name which I thought was pretty cool.  Alema, Malachi and mostly everyone recognized their name as well. I had them each stare at their name tag in their hands while repeating their name.  We tried it again and they recognized their names a lot quicker.  They all did great.

We then introduced the letter of the day 'R' which was hiding under the felt bear.  We talked about our theme 'R' for Rainbows.  I had them stand in line according to the colors they were wearing to form a beautiful rainbow which I was able to take a snap shot of.  I had an alphabet book which helped us to find things that began with the letter R.  They were quite restless and hungry so we went straight to snack time which consisted of Raisins which only had a few takers, as well as Rice crispy squares and crackers.  They were hungry and satisfied after their little snack.  We then went over our R worksheets as we learned how to write both an upper case R and a lower case r.  We then went to our science part of the day which I was so excited for...making a rainbow indoor.  How cool is that?!  Well, it would have been cool if it actually worked..ha ha.  It worked in the morning but the sun moved in an hour and a half so the angle was all wrong.  They were so excited to see the rainbow I felt bad so here's what you do, maybe you can try it at home for them.  You take a jar of water or a glass and you put it in your window sill.  As the sun shines down on it a beautiful rainbow will appear on the floor which you can then put poster paper down for them to color.  Hopefully it will work for you:)

We then had our art project where we took the 3 primary colors...red, yellow, and blue...and produce secondary colors....orange, green and purple....by mixing them together.  They were so amazed as I mixed the colors together.  Then we got messy.  We used our hands to make handprints with each color to form a rainbow on poster paper.  As much as they loved getting messy, they were excited to wash their hands after as well.  We ended the day by reading a book about rainbows so all in all it was an eventful 2 hours.  We're excited for Thursday and just another reminder to bring something SILVER to share for show and tell as that is our color of the day!

FREE DAY @ HOGLE ZOO TOMMORROW ONLY!

Tomorrow at Hogle Zoo is absolutely free all day long!  Sounds like a fun filled free day!!

Funbox Preschool at the Tejadas!

Due to the holiday on Monday we will be having preschool on Tuesday and Thursday at our house.  Since it's the first time here is our address: 1023 W 1360 S Orem 84058  Kaiona is so excited to have her friends come visit us and we have some fun things planned.  This week we are learning about the letter 'R' for Rainbow so on Tuesday if it isn't too much, could I have each child come in a different color: Alema-Green, Aisa-Red, Malachi-Blue, Jason-Yellow, Kailia-Orange, Ku'ulei-Purple and Kaiona-White.  If the color doesn't work for your son/daughter, no worries, still come in whatever shirt they have available!!    Then on Thursday if I could have each child bring something SILVER for sharing time, that would be great.  Coins, spoons/knives, tin can, or even tin foil..LOL  You can be creative:)

We look forward to seeing you all this week...have a great Presidents Day!

VALENTINES DAY AT MRS. PAM'S HOUSE

Today was the first time we have had all of our students, 7 of them, WOW! lol It was great watching them and seeing how they have all progressed since Sept. when we started.  Can you believe its been that long!  Great Job ladies!  Anyways our shape of the week was hearts, very appropriate for valentines! so we focused on the shape on Tuesday.  I really want us all to start pushing name recognition and writing for rest of the school year.  We had circle time and all the kids are pros at circle time!  Each child had to find the heart that had their name on it.  I made name cards (that are in the bin) for us to go over with them during circle time. (pics of this coming on next post) .  I had each child stand and hold their card and we spelled it out loud.  For crafts we made beaded hearts with the pipe cleaners, and we decorated our bags for our valentine exchange.
the last half hour we had a few valentines game and songs.  and did our valentine exchange in which all the kids were anxiously awaiting to see what they were gonna get.  All in all we had lovely day!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALEMA

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALEMA!!  HOPE YOUR DAY WAS GREAT!

FUNBOX Preschool@The Fifita's! Police Station/Court fieldtrip (Wednesday Feb 9)

Wednesday was such a FUN day! Keeping with the letter P theme, we took a field trip to the Orem Police Station and the Juvenile Court (Aunty Jeane is a Probation Officer). I was thankful for the help of Aunty Jeane and Aunty Pam on this trip because the kids were so excited!

Officer Clement met us at the front door and took us on a tour of the Police station

He showed us photos of our local law enforcement who keep us safe

This Officer is a big Pittsburgh Steelers Fan and was so happy to see Malachi's football jersey!!

He explained that sometimes Police officers deal with children, so this is where they come to get stuffed animals and toys to keep them happy.

Thank you Officer Clement, from the Funbox Preschool!

Alema, Aisa, Malachi, Kailia, Ku'ulei, Jason

We then walked over to Aunty Jeane's work; Juvenile Court and she showed us the courtroom, holding cells and met a female police officer.

We came back to Aunty Jen's and had lunch: Pigs in a blanket, pudding and can pears.
