FunBox @ da Galeais

1/18/11 - Letter M

*sorry no pics for this day*

We started with playdough til everyone arrived. We did the normal circle time routine and it amazes me how much they've learned the songs & pledge of allegiance each time they come back to my house. I luv it!! After circle time, I introduced them to the letter of the week: M. we first practiced writing the letter M in the air with our fingers. Then we had fun making the M sound mmmmmmmmmmmm. I had pictures cut out of different things and they had to tell me which ones started with M. And with each M picture we would say out loud "M for milk" "M for matches" etc...i then asked which one of your names starts with M? and Malachi immediately said, "ME! M for Malachi" and that was the saying for the day. We then went in to doing the theme of M for Mail. We talked about mail: and how mail works. We looked out the window at my mailbox. They all said they get to check their mail at home once in a while. Then it was craft time. They had to glue together a picture of the mailbox on Blues Clues. Its funny how they'd rather use the glue stick to 'color' their picture lol. Then for snack they had alphabet cookies & apples. They got a kick at trying to find letter Ms in their pile of cookies. After snack it was almost time to go home so they played toys til mommies came :)

1/19/11 - Rectangle

Again, we started with playdough til everyone arrived then we did circle time.

After circle time we played pin the flag on the mailbox. (like pin the tail on the donkey)

Malachi was so funny when i put the blindfold on he said, "Hey who turned the lights off in here" lol too cute :)

They did very well don't you think?

At the end of pin the flag on the mailbox they all had ants in their pants so we played another  game where they lined up ....

and I asked "Which one of you has Big Bird/Flowers (etc) on your placemat?" and that person would answer then sit on their placemat. (sidenote: just thought of another way we could try playing this game: asking which one of you has a blue/yellow placemat to practice colors)

They were ready to learn & listen after the placemat game :)

I showed them a mailbox i made and they were  excited to look inside at the mail that was in it.

They took turns checking the mail and.......

giving the mail to whoevers name was on it.

Then it was time to open their mail and they were so excited to see what was in it. (wait til they start getting bills...lol)

Alema was the first to open his mail, "SHAPES AUNTY ITS SHAPES!!!"

I introduced them to our shape of the day RECTANGLE by showing them the rectangle on the shape chart. Then they had to go through their shapes, pick out the RECTANGLES and put them back into the mailbox. They had alot of fun doing this :) After they got done sorting through their shapes. We looked for rectangles in auntys house. They pointed to the picture frames, the TV.....

and most of their placemats were rectangles, too.

We then headed to the table and colored our itsy bitsy rectangle books.

It was snack time & they loved the alphabet cookied they had the day before so they had that and again they had fun looking for letter Ms.

After snack we played another fun game to review our letter & shape of the week (so sorry i didn't do #3 oops)

Unko Raymond put tape on the floor of the letter M & a rectangle so we could have some fun while reviewing the letter & shape of the week. (sorry i didn't do the #3 oops)

First they had fun by doing this.....

then this....lol...these guys are way too much fun :)

Then they played musical M/Rectangle. Its just like musical chairs. We played music and whoever landed on the X on either the M or the rectangle, won! They liked walking around the rectangle as you can tell by the pictures :)

Aisa & I had so much fun having everyone over. Thanks for all ya'll do for FunBox. Learning is FUN :)

Pink & the number 4

Today was our Pink day.  Aisa helped with singing time, Kuulei  was our shape and color helper, Kailia was our flag helper. Alema was our weather man. They had a good time with show and tell. Alema brought pink band-aids, Aisa had a cool princess wand, Kailia shared soft pink heart shaped marshmallows, Malachi had pink chocolate candies, Jason showed off a pink phone, and Kuulei had pink socks, a pink shirt and a pink doll.   We learned about the number 4.  We did 4 kicks, 4 stretches, and 4 jumps.  We also watched a video clip about the number 4.  Snack time we had pink cupcakes, Malachi was our snack helper.  For science, we filled a container with water and tested to see if a pink grapefruit would float or sink.  The kids hypothesis was correct, the grapefruit stayed afloat.    Jason was my craft assistant. For crafts we worked on our pink N book and their #4 sheets.   To end the day we looked in Auntie's pink purse and found a pink treasure.

Thanks everyone for making it a great week.
Check their back packs for their pink N books.

School is cool @ Aunty Nani's

I am so sorry I am late....like always....and of course I am blogging at 3am at work!  I had school Tuesday and Wednesday! We studied the Letter L, the color brown, and talked about LOVE!

We missed Malachi, who was sick, and Kaiona, who was out of town this week!  We enjoyed having our newest member Jason/Bubbi join us!  All the kids wanted to do at my house was eat and play downstairs with the toys!  (We are also very fortunate to have our youngest visitor Kalei join us!  She paid more attention to me then Alema :)! )

Tuesday-I introduced the color BROWN!  We played brown bear, brown bear, what do you see?  We looked for brown in our clothes, who had brown eyes, brown hair, brown things in my house!  I also always do the color chart....they all pretty much know their colors!  Then I introduced the letter L.  When Etano was in kindergarten his teacher taught them to write their letters with these instructions (for L - it was down and over, so like for H it would be down, down and across, for lower case d it was around and down).  I was suprised that most of them were able to to a capital L when I showed them and said to them the "down and across" instructions!  The kids loved our "Lunch-time"!

Aisa is my talkative, "aunty look" one.  Jason adjusted really well - him and Alema kept trying to sneak off to find cool toys.  Kailia and Kalei were little partners and Kuulei was my little teacher's aide!  We had a good time!

Wednesday - in a nut shell was our little LADYBUG day!  We made paper plate lady bugs!  They inserted their own ladybug legs but interestingly enough their favorite part was when I let them have the sharpie to draw black circles!  haha....Then we made ladybug houses - with red plastic cup, filled with green construction paper grass, then our lady bug was a red felt ball....they loved covering the top with saran wrap so the ladybug would not escape!  Again, they loved ""Lunch-time"!  We also sang lots of songs - they like doing the loud then soft singing!

Thanks again Ladies for all you do for Alema and me!  We enjoy our time with you all!!

N day

N is for nose, newspaper, neck, necklace, net, nest, numbers, nine, nachos and noise. Aisa was our weather man, Kaiona was our flag helper, Jason was our shape and color helper and Kuulei helped with the songs. Aisa predicated a sunny day.  Kaiona did an excellent job leading everyone.  Jason is a master at his colors and shapes. Well, to introduce our letter of the week we watched the Sesame Street clip on the letter N. Everyone did a great job identifying the letter N on their sheets.   Malachi was our craft helper.  For crafts, the girls had a great  time gluing noodles on to their letter N, although Kuulei didn't actually put noodles on she had fun with the glue. Jason made foot prints on his N.  Kailia was our snack helper.  We had nachos planned for snack but all the kids so NO to nachos so we had cheese balls, cookies (that Malachi made for his friends) and juice. After snack time we hide the N and had everyone take a turn looking for it.  The kid made lots of noise during  music time.  Everyone got one instrument and we played our music loudly, softly, slowly and quickly. Malachi and Aisa were on the drums, Jason was on the bells, Kaiona had the recorder, Kailia had the xylophone and Kuulei had the maracas.  (And yes, I sanitized all the instruments before (:)    We also played with the felt board.  The kids love little mouse, little mouse.   It was a great day.  See you Wednesday.  Don't forget it's Pink Day.

School is back in session!

It was so fun having everyone back at preschool today!  Kailia was soooo excited to have everyone come to her house, she really missed having preschool.

During circle time no one skipped a beat even though it has been awhile they remembered exactly what to do.  We took our time reviewing all the shapes, colors, sang the days of the week song several times and also the ABC song.

Today we learned about the letter K for king.  With the help of Kermit the frog we drew the letter K in the air and all practiced writing the letter K on a big lined paper pad.  Kuulei was the best at this, she must have been practicing her name for awhile now...Good Job!  We then read a book about a King and all the "K" things he collected.

They then told me they were all hungry so we went to the "K"itchen to have some "K"ix cereal and apples.

While everyone was eating our dog Rosco was running around outside in the snow.  He soon became the center of attention.  It was like a zoo exhibit.  Aisa even said..."He runs fast like a cheetah".

We then worked on our craft which was decorating their "K"ing crowns.  They used foam stickers and glued on pompoms, it was so much fun!

When they were done we took pictures of them with their crowns on, standing like the letter K.

They all wanted to let the dog in because Alema said he was thirsty.  Then they all wanted to pet him,
even Kuulei who is usually scared of him. He is a very friendly dog.
Well we went back into the front room to talk about the homework I was sending home with them.  They sure had the wiggles and I think they were done listening so I asked if they wanted to dance, which is one of their favorite things to do.  They all shouted yes!!!  They are sooo cute and have such great dance moves!!!  I recorded them but for some reason it won't upload, Sorry :(

Well I t was a fun day at Ms Julie's and we look forward to Wed.
