FunBox at Malachi's

This week school will be held on Monday, March 28 and Friday at 10:30.  We will be learning about the letter W.    Let me know if you have any questions.

The letter V is for...

The kids had a wonderful time learning of the letter V, the color RED and the number 4!

LETTER V: We had letter V worksheets to work on. They circled the letters V in a word puzzle and then worked on tracing the letter V. The kids learned how to do the letter V in sign language. They also watched the Sesame Street video of the letter V which taught different words that starts with V-Vacuum, Volcano, Vulture, Violin, etc. Then we had craft time with a cut out vegetable basket. They colored their baskets and then cut and colored different veggies to put in their baskets. I incorporated the color RED into it too and had red veggies and fruits to glue items on the baskets with their favorite things to eat.

RED: For the color RED, we learned of the veggies and fruits that are red. Afterwards I took them out to my front yard and we played the red light, green light game. They had a lot of fun racing to the finish line and running out some energy.

NUMBER 4: For the number 4 we had lunch in the form of 4's. So the turkey sandwiches were cut into 4 pieces, they had 4 baby carrot sticks, 4 pieces of strawberries and red fruit punch. After some playtime the kids got to pick 4 pipe cleaner craft pieces to make something really cool to take home. Some made spiders and we sang "Itsy bitsy spider". Some made super hero bracelets and flew around the room like a vulture. The topics somehow all fit together. We then read a couple books and had a wonderful singing time!

U is for Universe!

Sorry this is such a LATE update and I hope you will be ok with a quick change of plans. about 2 weeks ago I scheduled our class to go on a field trip to the BYU Planetarium on Fri March 18th. However tonight as I am up late working on stuff, I checked my email and at 930PM received an email from the planetarium saying that the group scheduled for Fri will be a much older group and would not work for our class. They confirmed us for Wed March 16th for 10am-11am (some advance notice huh!!!). I would still LOVE to take the kids! I think field trips are sooo FUN and they get to see and experience new things. I know this is last minute and I don't even know if any of you will check this in the early morning or not. The kids would have to be here (815 E 500 N Orem, a few blocks South of Harmon's) at my house by 9 or 915am at the very latest, or you can meet me at BYU by 940am. The show is from 10-11am and we have to check in 10 mins early. I will try to call all of you in the morning.

T for choo choo TRAIN

TUESDAY

We started with circle time and they've learned all the songs & the pledge so well. We then did name recognition. I wrote each of their names on an envelope & in each envelope were the letters of their name. I held each envelope up and they were all pretty good at recognizing their names. They had to spell their names with the letters using their name on the envelope as a a guide. Then we started our letter of the week "T". I started with showing them how to make T's with our hands by putting them together like how the refs signal a techinal foul in basketball lol. Then I read them a book, "FREIGHT TRAIN" the book also helped them with their colors, each train cart was a different color. Then it was snack time. They love these alphabet cookies that I get from WinCo...a couple of them were lucky enough to find T's in their pile of cookies :) Then they made their trains that they brought home. They're really getting the hang of gluing things together on their own. Then we played the choo choo train game. They each got 2 strips of different color construction paper which were their train tickets. I was the train and I'd call out, "All those with (color) tickets. ALL ABOARD!" then we made a human train with me leading them in a circle around the living room. They loved this game.....then we changed it up a little and I'd say, "It's Kaiona's train!" and they'd all form a line behind Kaiona and go around the living room following her. They each got a turn and looooooved it. ChuggaChuggaChuggaChugga Choooo Choooooo!!!!!!!

THURSDAY

After circle time, we started again with name recognition. We did the envelope exercise we did on Tues. learning to put the letters of their names in order. Then we played "Who Stole The Cookie" I made brown construction paper cookies, one for each of them, with their names on it.....I chose a name from the bowl and we'd sing  "who stole the cookie from the cookie jar.....(Kuulei) stole the cookie from the cookie jar" and so on and so on.....each time a child would pick a cookie from the jar, theyd hold it up for everyone to see so that child who's name was on the cookie would recognize it...then we'd sing the song ( i hope that made sense lol) We read the train book again (COLORS) then had snack. After snack they did their #2 art where they glued 2 eyes, pom poms, feathers & smiley stickers on a #2. Then we played a spin the bottle game. i handed out 2 capital Ts, lower case ts, triangles & #2 written on paper. someone would spin the bottle, whoever it landed on would show their piece of paper & whoever had the matching one would spin next ( ok i hope i'm making sense lol) Then they wanted to play the choo choo train game AGAIN so i got a good workout this week. lol

Anyways, all in all it was a good week, the kids were well behaved and had fun learning :)

Oh "S"!

Ahhh....my last time teaching, right??!!  And we had a good time!  I did the letter S....

On Monday:
We didn't get to circle time only cause we hit the ground running!  When everyone arrived - we left shoes and coats on - and took a walk on the "sidewalk" to look for "snake" food.  We walked around my neighborhood and crossed the street a couple of times and talked about crossing "safely".  The kids were all very good about looking both ways and walking.  My mom always used to say - "We walk on sidewalks - not run - they are sidewalks, not sideruns!."  So we talked about walking so we don't trip.  (We read a short book about being safe before we left my house - it talked about tying our shoelaces too!)

Then when we got back I had a lot piece of paper taped to by family room window.  The kids like to draw on the window for some reason - so it gets them to practice. We practiced drawing our "S's".  Then my mom made salt dough and the kids made snakes that we baked.

We also learned about our "size".  I had the kids lay down and a traced them on butcher paper.  They liked that.  And of course there was play time - the kids were good about cleaning up after play time cause Uncle Talaga was there!  haha....

On Thursday:
Started with circle time.  The kids totally know their days of the week.  We also did colors and each color the kids had to find out who had that color on.  Kuulei had these colorful socks on today so she had all the colors!  Kaiona and Alema were sad because they just had plain white shirts on :).

Next we made "spaghetti".  Each of the kids added water to the pot.  I let them play while the water boiled and spaghetti cooked.  Then we had "snack" time.  Kailia was my little shadow today, Kuulei played with the boys, and Kaiona was the peacemaker.  The boys were fighting over toys today and Kaiona kept telling them they needed to share, they needed to listen, etc.  She was so cute!

And, lastly, it was Dr. Seuss's birthday this week so we did a little Dr. Seuss activity.  I had them color cat in the hat hat's and they got to wear them.  They thought being a doctor was so cool.  We read a couple of his books that I had.  We also sang happy birthday to Dr. Seuss and Uncle Talaga who was at my  house again. (We should just enroll him the our preschool! - The kids are so good when he is around!)
