Today was the first day of school, and we had alot of fun learning. We first worked on the routine we go through everyday, the kids loved seeing their pictures on the helping chart. They quickly understood the concept of putting their picture next to the picture that was posted. They eagerly stood in line and made it to the floor for circle time. We went over some rules and how to sit on their special seats (placemats). Alot of them had ants in their pants, but that was ok, because our theme was learning about Ants, I had my special friend Anthony the Ant who helped me out alot today and the kids really loved that. We sang the welcome song, Aisa checked the weather constantly, it was great because all he had to do was move the arrow according to the weathers changes he saw during school, (they all wanted to be the weather helper.) We played the Weather Says game. Alema was our Flag holder, they learned how to put their hand over their chest to show respect to the flag and tried their best to repeat after me. My friend Anthony the Ant introduced the letter of the day, A, we worked on sounding it out. We marched and sang the "Ants Go marching" The kids were curios to see my other friend Alfred the A-nt Eater(my decorated vacuum) I had letter A's all over the floor for the kids to find and feed them to Alfred A-nt Eater.
Craft Time
We worked on decorating our letter A, my instructions were to put the pompoms on the lines, and they all did great job and loved playing with glue sticks. Kailia, was my craft helper, she helped me pass out items only to Kuulei (lol).
We made Ants out of the egg cartons and pipe cleaners.
Free Play was for only 10 minutes due to time. Kuulei was my snack helper. We were suppose to make Ant tunnels with graham crackers, but time was going by FAST. so the kids just ate the ingredients ( Graham crackers, grapes, bananas, choc chips, marshmallows, M&M's w/ Juice) Malachi was not very hungry, but sat at the table watched everyone it. Mrs. Pam loved the treats that Malachi brought for his class (wink, wink)...YummY!
Immediately after, the kids drew pictures for Kaiona.
Malachi was the singing helper and sure did a great job, we sang ring around the rosies, and head shoulders, knees and toes.
We did not have time to read book today.
The kids looked like they were having so much fun. Malachi can't stop talking about his class. Thanks for all your preparation. Your ant eater was a clever idea. Great job.
